Blog 15

Oh man this class was an eye opener for me. To start off with I’m not very good with computers. The only reason I used computers was to do the basics like word, power points, and online social networks like facebook. Before this class my friends tried to make me get an twitter account and they had no luck. I was always the one to say “I will never get a twitter.” Now look at me! It’s actually fun, it keeps me posted with what my friends are doing. Although that’s not all that twitter offers that’s what I like about it. I’ve also learned about wordpress, how to add a wiki entry, how to share file through goofle docs, and how to use delicious.

This class has been so helpful to me with teaching me more tools about the computer or should I say the world wide web. I believe that I can use some of these tools that I learned from this class forever until something new comes out (which is going to happen). This class has helped me encounter people with different types of personalities which I think is helpful when you plan on your profession to be teaching. I would definitely reconmend this class to anyone who needs a professional writing class. You don’t always meet a teacher who is willing to help and understands the life of a college student. Overall I think this was a great course and it taught me some things that I can always use in the work field.

Blog post 14

At this point of time the collabortion assignments is basically over. We have the powerpoint, and flyers. Now we only have to get pictures from the supervisor at the boys & girls club to add to the brochure. Although we are not completely done it has been fun working with Joy. I have sooo much respect for because outside of school she has a real life and she still takes the time to be prepared for class. This assignment has taught me that even though I’m a student athlete and think I have a lot to do. Some people really have a lot to do and if they can manage their time, then I can to. This just come to show that everything has a meaning and I’m glad that I got to work with Joy and the boys & girls club.

Blog post 13

Joy and I went to the boys & girls club to meet with the supervisors. They basically gave us a layout of what they want and how they wanted it. Our project is on the verge of being a good one. We basically have everything we need for the project and know exactly what has to be done. The only negative I have is that me and Joy schedules are crazy, but this is something that has to be done. At first I thought this was going to be hard but actually it’s not and it’s kind of fun.

So far the project is going great. We seem to be on one page with the boys & girls club. We are set to meet with them and talk about what we have done and what else needs to be done. From the last blog we’re basically still at the same point that we were at.I’m still feeling that this is going to be a great experience because in the future I can see myself being a teacher or a mentor to children to help the stay on the right path or get back on the right path.

I will be doing a collaboration assignment with Joy for the boys & girls club of Corpus Christi. We are to write a combined 3,000 words about the project. We are to make three documents giving information about the summer camp for teens. The boys & girls club informed us to make a brochure, power point, and a flyer containing information about what the camp has to offer. I am happy that Joy and I got to work with the boys & girls club because we are getting a chance to better some kids life. When I was younger I enjoyed attending day camps because it gave me a chance to meet friends outside of school and also it gave me a feeling of comfort after a while. It’s always good to do something that’s giving back to younger children so that they can grow and better themselves. I am looking foward to see what this project has in store.

Twitterrific is an app where people just post information about they day as they go on. Before I had this class I told a couple of friends that I will never use twitter but after actually using it it’s not that bad. It’s very easy to update statuses from my phone because it already offers an app. Twitter is very unique because if someone has some useful information that I can use, all I have to do is follow them then send them a tweet. Although i’m still very raw at twitter it’s a lot of apps that are useful with that. Hope I see you people on twitter soon.

From the links that I read I found them very interesting because of the simple fact they were about blogs. This only my third time blogging so of course I want to get any information valuable for me to percieve as much as I can about blogging.  With Postsecret Frank Warren has created a blog spot where he allows you to speak whatever it is that you may feel. He only allows one post a week though. I guess he called it postsecret because people are intrigued to let out some very deep information, as for other people to blogg about random topics. On the other hand lifehacker is different form postsecrets. Lifehacker shows a clearer way on how blogs should be. Trapani expresses that blogs should be used in a way called “blogosphere”. What he means by that is that the blog needs to be at least relevant to the online community talking about information relating the world or whats happening on the web. He gives helpful tips like not making your blog to long for the eyes to read as well as making a blog something for everyone to use. Some people might get some information from your blog, therefore they will be using your blog as a link to theres since it’s the source of information. Basically blogs need to have information useful and not irrelevant that has nothing to do with the web or important things happening in the world.

The articles that we have read are very useful, especially in the era we’re in. O’Reillys article “What is Web 2.0″ is talking about the newness of software and how it’s forever changing. I think that the change was made because of the vast development of resources that are geared towards the web.  To be honest I don’t think nothing was wrong with web 1.0, but we are now a time where people rely on and need information to be at their dispossal quickly. The tools that we use right now at this moment might not be new in a year or so. I’m not that old so I don’t know to much about web 1.0 but I definitely have used some tools from web 2.o.  I think that these are quick new ways to get what we want instead of going through an internity to find them.

After looking at Carrs “Is Google Making Us Stupid,” I’m still getting the assumption that the internet is forever changing. The way I feel about google is that it can be helpful but it also can be harmful to a sense. I believe it could be helpful because it is a quick and easy source to get information about almost anything that is needed. Instead of dreading and spending a full day in the library on something. A person might be able to find that same information on goolgle in only five minutes. The harmful part of this is that google could take away the real importance of  studying and and maybe reading. The internet has completely changed the world today as we know it.

When I saw Shirkys video “How Social Media Can Make History”, it really gave me the idea that the way we see the web now is completly changed forever. People used the web for any and everything. All the thing that people used the television for like the news, weather, and tv listings can be found on the web with an abundence of other things to. I find it to be interesting that people can now just go on a site like CNN News.com to find out information and not have to wait on them to actually show it on the news. People also find stuff out by new genres like facebook, myspace, as well as twitter.  The internet has just changed over time as well as the world itself. This is the new wave of information so evryone might as well get used to it because it might just change again.

My name is LaMarr Drake. I’m from Chicago, Illinois and this is my senior year of college. I am a student-athlete, and I know that without an education, ther’s no sports. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family when I get a chance to see them. I plan on having a great time in this class and learning whatever I need to for more knowledge.
